Stewart MacDougall is one of Canada’s finest singer-songwriters and a true icon of Alberta’s music scene. With a career spanning more than five decades, he has earned a reputation as an exceptional songwriter, keyboardist, and performer whose music reflects the rich traditions of folk, country, and roots music. Originally from Fredericton, New Brunswick, he made Edmonton his home in 1980 and has since become a cornerstone of Alberta’s folk, country, and roots music scene.
Before launching his solo career in 1997, Stewart was renowned for his keyboard and vocal work with Laura Vinson, k.d. lang, Ian Tyson, and the Great Western Orchestra. These artists have all recorded his songs, as has Randy Travis and Sneezy Waters. His collaboration with Ian Tyson produced the title track for Tyson’s acclaimed 2008 album Yellowhead to Yellowstone and Other Love Stories.
Stewart has released four solo albums and appeared on several acclaimed tribute recordings, including Sorrow Bound: Hank Williams Re-Examined and The Gift: A Tribute to Ian Tyson. Stewart MacDougall continues to captivate audiences with thoughtful lyrics, masterful musicianship, and the timeless authenticity that has made him a beloved figure in Canadian music.
Light at the Edge brings together four of Edmonton’s most accomplished and enduring musicians, each with decades of performance experience and a passion for creating unforgettable music.
Bassist Ron Rault has been a cornerstone of Edmonton’s rock ‘n’ roll and blues scene since the 1960s and continues to captivate audiences as a driving force behind Front Porch Blues Revue. Singer-songwriter and guitarist Ken Davis first made his mark in the 1970s with the folk-rock band Manna, where he performed alongside fellow bandmate Bev Ross. For more than 50 years, Bev Ross has enriched Edmonton’s music community as a gifted singer-songwriter and master of both Celtic harp and piano. Completing the quartet is Kelly Collins, whose soaring, expressive vocals have graced some of Edmonton’s best-loved ensembles, including Alley Scatz and Juba!
Together, Light at the Edge creates a captivating musical experience, blending heartfelt original songs with inventive interpretations of beloved classics. Drawing inspiration from folk, blues, country, and jazz, the band delivers performances that are warm, soulful, and full of musical surprises—honouring timeless traditions while making every song uniquely their own.
